A common fault with GHD hair straighteners is the cable. It is a part that suffers the most from wear and tear especially if it is not looked after and excessively kinked or wrapped around the GHD's. If you expect that it is just the cable at fault then we sell these individually if you are happy to replace it yourself instead of buying a GHD repair. We also have a video quide on how to replace the cable which can be seen on this page. If you need help fitting the cable or are unsure whether the cable is at fault then please contact us.

It is not uncommon for a small hole to develop at the top of the cable as this is a weak point on the cable. Prior to this you will note that the GHD's may turn on and off depending on what position the cable is in. If you keep using them then it is likely that the hole will develop and then sparks will begin to come out from that hole.

If you notice any irregularity with the cable then we suggest you stop using them straight away and replace the cable with one on this page or alternatively send them to us for repair.

If you experience any of the following problems with your cable then it would suggest that it is time to replace the cable:
Intermittent power when flexing the cable at the base or top
Scorch/burn marks on the cable itself
Exposed internal wires
Sparking or smoke coming from the cable
It is also advisable not to attempt to repair the cable or take it apart to fix it. If you click on the pictures below you can see examples of faulty cables and common problems.

The power cable on GHD's can become faulty even if the cable isn't neglected or treated badly. There are however a few tips to prolong the life of your cable and avoid it looking like the cables above:
Do not wrap the cable around the GHD's when you have finished using them. Fold the cable up or just leave it undone.
Avoid touching the cable with the hot ceramic plates as this will damage the protective insulation and render the cable dangerous to use.
Avoid knotting the cable. If you see any knots or kinks then remove them by manipulating the plug.
Keep your GHD's hidden away in a draw from pets. It may seem obvious however many people require a new cable because a family pet has chewed through it.
You can purchase a replacement ghd cable below to carry out the repair yourself. Please read the information provided to ensure you choose the correct cable for your model.
Each cable is a brand new item, certified to CE regulations and standards. The cable is covered by a 6 month warranty which covers manufacturing faults only and not any damage caused by neglect or excessive kinking of the cable.

You can purchase the cable with a UK plug adapter or just the cable itself. You can use the original plug off the old cable by simply unscrewing it. Please see the illustration below on how to remove the old plug.

Replacement GHD cable

Our replacement GHD cables are all VDE safety approved and are 2.8m salon length. They are direct replacements and are an easy swap for any existing faulty cables. Please ensure you choose the correct cable for your model. The information below will help you determine which is the correct cable.

MK3 cable is suitable for all GHD models up to the MK4.2 model. Please refer to the pictures below as you will be able to tell from the shape of the head too. The later MK4.2+ models use a different cable with a longer head and different connection which can be seen from the pictures.

MK3 pink cable is the same as the MK3 black cable but is pink in colour.

MK4.2+ cable is for all of the MK4.2 onward models which use a cable with a socket like connection on the end as opposed to a pin type. You can see from the picture to the right. It is also common for the connector which the cable fits into to become faulty. We sell the cable and connector together so you can be guaranteed a good fit.

You can use the original adapter plug on your existing cable. If you need a replacement adapter plug then please see below as we sell these separately.
